Metalund is a competence centre. Its research goal is to increase knowledge and understanding of the effects of different environmental factors on diseases and disorders of major concern for public health. Examples of these factors are air pollution, physical workload, noise, psychological stress, heavy metals and persistent toxic substances. Examples of relevant effects are musculoskeletal disorders, diabetes, renal disease, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, cancer, reproductive disorders, mental disorders and reduced health and performance. The research groups work integratedly to investigate how different environmental factors affect people. The research deals with working environmental factors and other environmental influences.
Metalund consists of research groups from the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (Faculty of Medicine) and the Division of Ergonomics and Aerosol Technology (Faculty of Engineering, LTH).
